Utmost Renovations Restores Masonry Walls and Helps Stop Leaks at Thomas Worthington High School

This summer Thomas Worthington High School needed a new roof and thru-wall flashing inside the masonry walls to stop leaks into the building above the cafeteria. Once again, CTL Engineering was selected to consult for the Worthington City School District and Ruscilli acted as the construction manager. This was approximately a $500,000.00 budget that was publicly bid and Meade Construction was the low bidder. Partly due to CTL Engineering’s and Ruscilli’s highly favorable past experience with Utmost Renovations and it’s owner, Mark Huffer, Meade awarded the masonry scope of work to Utmost as Utmost performed the exact same scope of work last summer for another roofer at McCord Middle School.
Utmost was assigned the tedious and highly skilled tasks of performing the masonry work. This included the removal and cleaning of existing brick, relaying original brick, installation of new thru-wall flashing membrane, insulation, mortar net, foam board, and termination bar, and spot-pointing failed mortar joints, re-caulking all vertical expansion joints in masonry walls and all window perimeters on the walls above the new roof system, installation of new Indiana limestone sills on some windows, and the final cleaning and sealing of masonry walls with a clear water repellent.

Concrete RepairUtmost Renovation’s crew had a tight schedule to keep as they had to stay in front of the roofers at all costs and complete the project in less than a month. The crew lead by a veteran mason with over thirty years experience was able to easily stay ahead and meet this critical time-frame. Not many companies could have performed so efficiently and as well as Utmost and all parties were once again very pleased with Utmost’s final product. In fact, Utmost as well as the roofer had to fight lots of rain in June and July and work off-peak hours including nights and weekends to get the project done on time. But when there is a schedule to keep, Utmost doesn’t make excuses and goes the extra mile to keep it.

Concrete RepairThe project from the masonry scope of work did not even have one cent for any change orders or extras which is unusual in this type of renovation project, although Utmost could have charged extra for replacing brick with new stone on four window sills that was not in the base bid. Instead, Utmost put the customer first, voluntarily waived the extra and simply got it done in a timely manner.Utmost is glad to report that there are no longer any leaks in the masonry walls, nor the new roof system for that matter. This is in spite of heavy rainfall over the summer. Worthington City Schools is satisfied as the project is now fully completed. Utmost plans to be there again for Worthington Schools when they do other re-roofing and masonry projects.
