Utmost Renovations was carefully screened and selected to perform the historical masonry renovation in Historic German Village at 171 E. Livingston Ave. for KV Development, LLC that is rehabbing the property. In fact, Utmost is one of only two local masonry restoration and historical preservation contractors even allowed to self-perform this type of work in German Village according to the German Village Historical Commission, KV Development informed us prior to bidding and subsequently, being awarded the contract. Utmost was selected due to its overall ability to adequately self perform the entire project from selected demolition, masonry and historical renovation to interior framing, shoring, etc.; as Utmost is also a full general contractor with the City of Columbus and has a great record for this exact type of work. The owner of the building stated: “Utmost Renovations offered a strong value added service being able to be very competitive and act as the general contractor and a sole source for the entire project. This is very important from a developer/client point of view as Utmost will assume all liability and be entirely responsible for the project including safety, coordination and sequence of all trades/workmanship, administrative and management of the project–all while delivering first-rate customer service, clear lines of communication, and very high quality craftsmanship”.

The scope of work is extensive and tricky. It includes primarily tearing down the north brick facade wall that is two wythe thick, salvaging as much original historical brick as possible, cleaning the old brick of excess mortar, relaying the entire wall and finish tuckpointing to match existing very closely; saving and re-using all historical decorative stone sills and headers as well in this wall around the windows, providing new windows as well as new glass block windows in the foundation/basement on the north wall; completing all exterior chimneys and some minor brick replacement and spot-tuckpointing; lots of temporary shoring and interior demo of stone foundation inner walls in the basement; scattered interior relaying of masonry walls, spot-tuckpointing, and some sand-blasting of existing brick walls; clean out and selected demo of old framing, duct work, mechanicals, etc.; and finally, new interior framing to make ready for drywall finishes and paint, etc.

The entire project will take approximately five to six weeks to complete from start to finish. Utmost has also been invited to bid and/or negotiate the interior finishes including new flooring that is another in-house specialty of Utmost Renovations.
