South High Street Sanitation Line Replacement

South High Street Sanitation Line Replacement

Building Maintenance Columbus Ohio

Utmost Renovations Recently completed at project for the Columbus Metropolitan Library at the South high Street Branch. This was a larger project for us and had a very tight schedule to accommodate to eliminate as much down time for them as possible. Utmost had a week to complete theproject and that included having all inspections passed. The project consisted of rerouting the existing main drain lines. The existing lines had lost the proper fall over the years and was not letting them flow properly to the outside sewers. After careful planning on the engineer’s part, we literally cut two trenches four feet deep right through the center of the building to bypass the old lines with new ones. The library was closed for a total of 8 days while the

construction was being performed. The first night consisted of putting up plastic containment to help with dust and dirt control. Saw cutting the two foot wide concrete trench areas with a total of 80 feet to be removed in sections. All of this was done on the first night of work. Once the concrete was removed all of At that point it was time to fill all of the trenches with gravel up to a 4” below grade surface to allow for concrete. The existing concrete was drilled and pinned with rebar and then the trenches were filled and leveled with concrete. The outside excavating and pipe fitting was also performed at this time and passed inspection. This phase was completed by the fifth night. On the morning of the sixth day we passed our final inspection for occupancy. This left us with a major clean up process including the parking lot where all the gravel, spoils, dirt, etc. were stored during the project.the dirt and gravel had to come out. For this task we used a mini track hoe with a scrubber and straddled the trench to dig to four feet deep total. This was all wheel barreled out to the parking lot and later loaded and hauled away. Once trenching was completed the PVC piping was installed with the proper fall to the outside and embedded in gravel. This phase took approximately four days. Once all the connections to the existing lines were made and the lines held an air test we had the (rough in) inspection performed which we passed. Some old lines also were capped and terminated.

<Columbus Metro LibraryOnce all of the materials were loaded and hauled away, we jet power cleaned all of the concrete and blacktop. Inside we did a complete construction cleanup and turned the building back to the library to be open the following Monday as planned. We actually completed the project with two days to spare. After the fill dirt had two weeks to settle outside, we re-graded the front yard with a bulldozer, repaired landscaping beds, mulched, seeded, and put down straw in the front yard. In the end we were congratulated by the library staff on a job well done.
