Paul, a university professor and Angie’s List customer in Beechwold, had two issues. His chimney was leaking, and a small planter wall near his front entry had collapsed.
Utmost Masonry Restoration did a full restoration of the chimney. We chemically cleaned, inspected, and removed all the mismatched, open, loose, crumbled, or deteriorated mortar, and spot pointed the chimney. After a final cleaning we secured the rain caps. Next we relaid the planter wall and capped it to make the entryway more modern in appearance and functional for the owners preference for potted plants.
The owner wanted the chimney to compliment their new board and batten siding. The color of their Ashlar-style brick wall and chimney was looking somewhat dated and was not in keeping with the updated look of the home. Instead of using a clear sealer we painted the chimney with an elastomeric coating which is better for brick than typical exterior paints and will bridge/move with future cracks and keep more water out in the future.
